For those of you who have a business and want to take advantage of different ways to communicate with your audience, one way to do this is by podcasting.
In a nutshell podcasting is simply a way to record a short segment using your computer and some software to do the actual recording and to add music to the podcast.
Podcasting is not something new actually, and if you start to investigate this social media channel, you’ll find that many people are doing this and you’ll find many different types of podcasts at the Apple I-Tunes store.
But the real question for you to ponder is this; is podcasting right for you?
And when I ask this question, it’s not just about asking the question if regard to your business, it’s also about you.
In a recent post on the blog titled Using Video to Get Your Message Across, one of the things that I mentioned in that post was that not everyone was well suited to do video and that to some extent you should actually possess the type of personality that translates well for video, and honestly not everyone does.
In my own case, I’ve done many video’s and I still sometimes think that maybe I’m not that well suited for that medium…and I’m still trying to decide if it’s a way to go for me, and you should seriously think about that question in this context.
I think that some businesses are better suited to a podcast than others. When it comes to entertainment such as Comic books, and maybe movies podcasting is a great alternative to a video podcast (yes there are also video-podcasts) where as I’m not all that thrilled about hearing a podcast about money matters.
That’s a topic for me anyway that I’d rather see done via camera to post say to a YouTube channel. The same hold true for any type of Insurance information, while I think some people may enjoy listening to a podcast on this subject, I’d rather see the video please.
I want to point out that all of this is purely subjective on my part, but you have to know your own strengths and what your business is all about.
You may come to the conclusion that your business is indeed the perfect candidate for podcasting and say, hey I want to do a pod-cast about my company ABC Widgets and Sprockets, and if that’s the case I say go for it!
Remember that in the crazy world of internet marketing, getting your business’s message across through as many social media channels as possible is not a bad thing, as long as you use an approach that’s tailored to your business’s specific needs.
