Business Owners…Understand Your Own Business Model!
Business Owners…Understand Your Own Business Model!
I purposely tagged the above sentence in the “H2″ tags (I actually should have used the “H1″ tag for more emphasis) for a reason.
As a blogger and copywriter trying to help you grow your business with copy that will convert casual web surfers to your site into satisfied customers, my job is to work with you by writing articles and other types of web content that fits your business needs.
There is only one problem with the above paragraph, and that’s when a client contacts me, and I do some work for them but they have no idea what their business model actually is.
I had a client (that person has long since dropped my services and their site is still languishing in internet limbo, with my last article sitting there with no Tweets or Facebook likes on it) who originally contacted me about some article descriptions of some videos that he wanted to promote on his website.
After starting work for this client, I began to see that there was just something that wasn’t right about this person’s business site and what this client wanted me to do for him.
The problem was (is) that this person had no clue about what his business model was.
This person was just promoting other online marketing guru’s products through video releases, but he apparently had no products or services of his own to promote, nor did he have any real article content that focused on the topic of online marketing.
I “called him” on this problem and asked him specifically if he knew what his business’s model was, and unfortunately he didn’t have a clue.
As a business owner (and make no mistake, having a business blog is a real business) you have to understand your business model. You have to have a product or service to offer to prospective customers, so even if you’re an affiliate marketer you still should have some type of product or service that is all your own to promote and you need fresh content that is targeted to your audience and is specifically written for your business.
And as far as my job goes, hey I will gladly write content for your site, but I shouldn’t have to define for you, as the business owner what your business model is. It’s just not part of my job description.
It’s your job as a business owner to not only understand your business model, but have a basic understanding of what it takes to write for the web, and I want to put special emphasis on this last statement…
You cannot be cowered by Google and it’s Panda updates!
Just remember, if your site has well written content that engages your audience, Google’s big, bad Panda will leave you alone.
Trust me, I know what I’m talking about.
